There are many thousands of known species of spider and many more thousands in collections awaiting classification. Many of them are tiny. Some can only be identified by microscopic identification of the genitalia. So how do you start?

A long list of species, even one with photographs, may hold all the required information but the enquirer has to read the whole list to identify one spider.
